The trail through Monica's Woods is moderately difficult only because of the elevation changes. The preserve also offers opportunities for nature study, snowshoeing, birding, painting, photography, and other passive activities. The northwestern and western portions of this preserve are wetlands, rich with wildlife plus winterberry, summersweet, maple-leaf viburnum, and other wetland flora.
Monica's Woods was purchased, in part, with a State of Connecticut Department of Energy and the Environment (CT DEEP) Open Space and Watershed grant with remaining funds from individual donations made to the Land Trust's Land Acquisition Fund.
At the flashing light by the Congregational Church, turn east onto East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike and proceed 1.6 miles. Turn left onto Southwinds Road. Access to BOTH Bloch Preserve and Monica's Woods is from the Bloch Preserve entrance, 0.2 miles up Southwinds Road on the right. Look for the brown Bloch Preserve sign.
IMPORTANT: Parking is along the roadside. Please be considerate of neighbors in choosing where to park.
