Description

The Bernard Church Woods property has a total area of 32 acres and consists of one trail loop that is approximately 1 mile. The main trail is blazed yellow and will take visitors through a young oak hickory forest and around the perimeter of a hay agricultural field. While walking around the outer edge of the hay field, the trail surface is grass and returns to packed soil upon entering the woods.

This preserve offers four distinct habitats for wildlife. In addition to the young oak-hickory forest that covers much of it, there are also two agricultural fields – one in corn and one in hay. A small marsh lies in the northeast corner and is surrounded by shrubby vegetation that provides good wildlife cover.

Other Information

The lower portion of the hay field near the marsh may be a bit wet after periods of heavy rain due to the close proximity of the trail. Avoid the tall grass and remain well into the hay field to stay on drier terrain.
