Description

Burying Hill Beach is a town-owned beach that offers a variety of aquatic and shore-related recreational opportunities in addition to a sandy beach front with amenities including changing rooms, grills, benches, and facilities.

Burying Hill Beach offers a unique look at a thriving tidal wetland ecosystem.  The area along New Creek is teeming with fiddler crabs and the nursery-sized fish that provide a succulent repast for egrets, herons, and other wading shorebirds that summer in Westport.

The area is a popular sport fishing location, including snapper blues, striped bass, and winter flounder.

Other Information

  • Burying Hill Beach is open all year, however between Memorial Day and Labor Day there is considerable daily fee for non-resident vehicles and motor cycles to enter the park. Prices vary for weekdays/weekends and for CT/out-of-state vehicles. Please check the Westport Burying Hill Beach web page before visiting.
  • No dogs are allowed between April 1 and September 30. In fact, animals are prohibited, either in or out of vehicles, on all Town owned property south of the entrance on Beachside Avenue with the exception of working animals hired by the Town.
  • Park hours from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • No kayaking or canoeing.
  • Fishing is prohibited in the swimming area unless permission is granted by the Westport Parks and Recreation Department. Fishing requires a CT fishing license.
