The trails at Commonfields lead through agricultural fields (now leased to a local farmer) that were associated with Mansfield's early settler's Commonfield. An entrance for the Joshua's Trust Pond Lot trail, which connects to trails in Echo Woods is a short walk down Cemetery Road. Also within walking distance of the site are historic Mansfield Center and Mansfield Hollow State Park.
In 2009, an Eagle Scout built a wildlife-viewing blind so visitors could observe the many species of birds and other wildlife in the wetland. Species include redwing black birds, common grackles, yellow warblers, muskrats, fox, and painted turtles.
Sidewalks along Route 195 provide a walkable and connected streetscape to explore Mansfield Center and a designated historic district. The Windham Region Transit District system provides public transportation to this area (bus stop is located at the intersection of Route 195 and Route 89).
