The North Eagleville Tract is a core parcel of the UConn Forest, which is a multi-use teaching, research, and extension resource managed and coordinated by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Connecticut. The property covers approximately 130 acres and is predominately occupied by mixed hardwoods and former red-pine plantations. It surrounds Cedar Swamp Brook which runs through a steep-sided deep valley and forms a wetland complex that feeds a pond located along Bone Mill Road.
The White Trail begins at a small parking area along North Eagleville Road near the UConn Northwood Apartment Complex. The trail is level at the beginning before dropping into the valley and coming close to Cedar Swamp Brook before going back uphill and connecting with the trail network of the Town of Mansfield’s Shelter Falls Park. The trail is rocky and somewhat difficult in the latter section near the brook.
The Yellow Trail branches off downhill (west) from the White Trail and works its way through hardwood forests and an old red pine plantation before emerging at Bonemill Road (no parking).
