Portions of the Pistol Creek site were cleared for a golf course while many wetland areas and a small pond were left relatively undisturbed. The town mows some of the former fairway areas to maintain them as meadows while some areas are not mowed and are now dominated by shrubs and small trees. The diverse habitat of meadows, wetlands, and gentle woodlands covers 77 acres and attracts wildlife and a wide variety of birds. Spruce Brook runs along a wooded corridor on the west side of the property.
The paved cart paths are an ideal walking area and are less challenging than some of Berlin's other hiking trails. All paths are multi-use trails accommodating wheel chairs, strollers, bikes, and other uses. For wheelchairs, the second trail from the east extending from the accessible parking area, past the dog park, to the first intersection at the north end of the park is the easiest, based on grades. The paved paths offer firm footing in all sorts of weather. They are not maintained in the winter months which allows for cross country skiing and snow shoeing.
Pistol Creek includes a fenced dog park. The former clubhouse is used for Parks and Recreation programs and town events.
