The Wethersfield Heritage Walk is a three-mile long, self-guided tour consisting of a series of nineteen interpretive markers that highlight points of historical significance throughout Old Wethersfield.
Start from the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center and follow along Marsh and Broad Street to the Town Green, then head west and north all the way to Cove Park. From there, follow Main Street back to the starting point. Along the way, make time at the signages to learn about people and buildings in this historic Connecticut town center, and visit the restaurant, shops and exhibits throughout the area.
For a more detailed description of the individual stations, please see the Heritage Walk brochure.
Most of this walk can be completed on sidewalks. However, there are some sections that require walking on the shoulder and crossing roads without dedicated crosswalks. Please use caution.
To access the signage on the Wethersfield Green, walk on the grass. Along Wethersfield Cove, the path is on gravel, grass and dirt.
Southbound, take Exit 26 and turn right onto Marsh Street. Northbound, take Exit 25/26 and then stay right to take Exit 26 towards Old Wethersfield. Turn left onto Great Meadow Road to cross under Route 3, then turn left again to cross under I-91 and left again onto Marsh Street. Continue on Marsh Street for 0.5 miles into the center of Old Wethersfield, then turn left onto Main Street. Keeney Memorial Cultural Center is on the left at 200 Main Street. Park behind the building.
Take Route 3 west to cross the river, then take the I-91 N exit toward Hartford but do not merge onto I-91. Instead, stay to the right and take the exit towards Old Wethersfield, then turn left to cross under I-91 and turn left again onto Marsh Street. Follow the directions above.
