Located in North Stonington and just south of the Babcock Ridge and Erisman Woodland Preserves, the D.R. Henne Memorial and Shunock Brook Preserves traverse alongside marshy wetlands and a running river.

Description

The Donald R. Henne Memorial and Shunock River Preserves offer approximately 1.3 total miles of trails and 150 feet of elevation gain. This trail has light blue blazes and goes along marshy wetlands and a flowing river. Trails are as narrow as 1 foot at times and as wide as 15 feet at others. Throughout the trail are boardwalks that elevate above the wetlands.

  • Donald R. Henne Memorial Preserve: 100.2 acres, (2008) 100 Babcock Road, east of Wyassup Road.
  • Stillman Tract: 1.6 acres (1994) Access between 48 and 60 Babcock Road.
  • Milltown Meadows Tract: 8.0 acres, (1995) Access from Don Henne Memorial Tract or from between 11 & 14 Surrey Lane.
  • Parke Memorial Preserve: 3.3 acres (2009) 16 Babcock Road, approximately 0.6 miles east of Wyassup Road. Historical mill site and pond with dam.

Trailhead Information

From I-95 North

Take exit 92 for CT-2 towards CT-49 North Stonington/Pawcatuck. Turn left onto CT-2 West. At the traffic circle take the 1st exit onto CT-184 East. Turn left onto CT-49 North. Turn left onto Babcock Road. 

From I-95 South

Take exit 92 for CT-2 towards CT-49 North Stonington/Pawcatuck. Turn right onto CT-49 North. Turn left onto Babcock Road.
